Springer US Correlations, Coherence, and Order
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 160,49 €This volume contains a collection of review articles that are extended versions of invited lectures given at the First Pamporovo Winter Workshop on Cooperative Phe nomena in Condensed Matter held in villa "Orlitza" (7th-15th March 1998, Pamporovo Ski Resort, Bulgaria). Selected research works reported at the Workshop have been published in the Journal of Physical Studies - a new International Journal for research papers in experimental and theoretical physics (Lviv University, Lviv, Ukraine). These reviews are supposed to be status reports and present new insights gained from the rapidly developing research of outstanding problems in condensed matter physics such as structural properties and phase transitions in fullerene crystals, super conductivity ofstrongly interacting electrons in copper oxides, spin polarized Fermi liq uids, chaotic vortex filaments in superfluid turbulent Helium-II, desorption induced by electronic transitions in ionic compounds, fluctuation phenomena in superconductors, and quantum critical phenomena in low dimensional magnets and quantum liquids. We have set the material according to the alphabetic order of authors' names although the high temperature superconductivity seems to be the hard kernel in condensed matter physics. The authors have taken care to present the recent advances in their research in a form which is readable and useful not only to experts in the respective field, but also to young scientists. That is why the lectures include a comprehensive introduction to the matter and also an extended discussion of methodical details.

Springer New York MRI-Arthroscopy Correlations
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 90,94 €Integrating MRI findings associated with the spectrum of problems seen in the most commonly treated joints in sports medicine with the diagnostic findings seen during arthroscopy of the same joint in the same patient, this unique text correlates this pathology and applies these findings to the clinic, the radiology reading room and the operating suite. Representing a microcosm of daily patient care, this type of interactive correlation is an exceedingly effective tool for education and continued learning, an impetus for interdisciplinary research collaboration and a critical part of an approach to optimum patient care. Furthermore, this case-based correlation between MRI imaging and arthroscopic findings and treatment is a well-received and effective method for teaching and discussion at meetings and instructional courses. MRI-Arthroscopy Correlations is organized into four sections highlighting the four major joints in which MRI and arthroscopy are most commonly used in sports medicine: knee, shoulder, elbow and hip. Chapters are formatted to present an overview of the specific disease entity first, followed by selected cases chosen by the chapter authors that best illustrate common or noteworthy disease entities or pathology with an emphasis on the parallel MRI imaging and arthroscopic findings. Each of the section editors, as well as the volume editor, are nationally recognized experts, teachers and pioneers in their respective areas of sports medicine and have covered the gamut of topics in each of their sections. Taken together, this will be an invaluable resource for sports medicine specialists, orthopedic surgeons and musculoskeletal radiologists alike, promoting increasingly accurate diagnoses of pathology and advanced treatment options to aid in the optimization of patient care and recovery.

Springer US Intrusion Detection and Correlation
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 106,99 €Intrusion Detection and Correlation: Challenges and Solutions presents intrusion detection systems (IDSs) and addresses the problem of managing and correlating the alerts produced. This volume discusses the role of intrusion detection in the realm of network security with comparisons to traditional methods such as firewalls and cryptography. The Internet is omnipresent and companies have increasingly put critical resources online. This has given rise to the activities of cyber criminals. Virtually all organizations face increasing threats to their networks and the services they provide. Intrusion detection systems (IDSs) take increased pounding for failing to meet the expectations researchers and IDS vendors continually raise. Promises that IDSs are capable of reliably identifying malicious activity in large networks were premature and never tuned into reality. While virus scanners and firewalls have visible benefits and remain virtually unnoticed during normal operations, the situation is different with intrusion detection sensors. State-of-the-art IDSs produce hundreds or even thousands of alerts every day. Unfortunately, almost all of these alerts are false positives, that is, they are not related to security-relevant incidents. Intrusion Detection and Correlation: Challenges and Solutions analyzes the challenges in interpreting and combining (i.e., correlating) alerts produced by these systems. In addition, existing academic and commercial systems are classified; their advantage and shortcomings are presented, especially in the case of deployment in large, real-world sites.

Birkhäuser Boston Planar Ising Correlations
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 42,79 €Steady progress in recent years has been made in understanding the special mathematical features of certain exactly solvable models in statistical mechanics and quantum field theory, including the scaling limits of the 2-D Ising (lattice) model, and more generally, a class of 2-D quantum fields known as holonomic fields. New results have made it possible to obtain a detailed nonperturbative analysis of the multi-spin correlations. In particular, the book focuses on deformation analysis of the scaling functions of the Ising model, and will appeal to graduate students, mathematicians, and physicists interested in the mathematics of statistical mechanics and quantum field theory.

Springer US Pair Correlations in Many-Fermion Systems
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 160,49 €At first glance, the articles in this book may appear to have nothing in common. They cover such seemingly disparate subjects as the properties of small metallic clusters and the behavior of superfluid He3, nuclear physics and organic materials, copper oxides and mag netic resonance. Why have they been brought together, particUlarly in our time of narrow spe cialization? In fact, the properties and effects described in this book touch upon one and the same fundamental phenomenon: pair correlation. Introduced in the theory of superconductivity by J. Bardeen, L. Cooper, and J. Schrieffer (BCS), this effect plays a key role in various Fermi systems. The book consists of several sections. The first chapter is concerned with conven tional and high Tc superconductors. The second chapter describes two relatively young fami lies of superconductors: organics and fullerenes. Chapter III addresses the superfluidity of 3 He • The discovery of this phenomenon in 1971 was a big event in physics and last year was acknowledged by a Nobel prize. This book contains the text of the Nobel lecture. Chapters IV and V are devoted to correlations in finite Fermi systems such as small metallic clusters, C 60 anions, and atomic nuclei. The book thus covers a broad range of problems, illuminating the close ties between various areas of physics.

Springer US Correlation Analysis in Chemistry
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 106,99 €This book, Correlation Analysis in Chemistry: Recent Advances, is a sequel to our Advances in Linear Free Energy Relationships. t The change in the title is designed to reflect more accurately the nature of the field and the contents of the volume. The term LFER is still widely used, but it is often applied rather loosely to correlation equations that are not LFER in the restricted sense of a relationship involving logarithms of rate or equili brium constants on each side of the equation. The term "correlation analysis" seems to us more appropriate for the whole subject. The use of this term has compelled us also to introduce "chemistry" into the title; we have preferred not to prefix this with "organic" on the grounds that several areas of interest are not "organic chemistry" as usually understood, al though, of course, traditional applications of the basic relationships asso ciated with the names of Hammett and of Taft continue to be of interest. In the first volume we sought through our authors to provide a series of general articles covering the various aspects of the field as they seemed to us. Since the book was the first international research monograph in its field, each chapter, while giving prominence to recent developments, did not neglect earlier work, so that each article presented a comprehensive account of its own area.
