Humana Press Rapid ECG Interpretation
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 213,99 €The electrocardiogram (ECG) is the ? rst test performed on most cardiac patients–one that helps make the ? rst part of the diagnosis and one that can frequently direct treatment decisions. Thus, for any phy- cian, a solid understanding of the ECG is critical. Learning the basics and subtleties of the ECG is a right of passage for all physicians and healthcare providers during their training. So, what would we want from a book on ECGs? Ideally, such a book would be comprehensive, yet concise, practically oriented, and explain pathophysiology and its application to practice. Dr. Khan has written such a book. Rapid ECG Interpretation is comprehensive, yet concise, and very practically oriented. More imp- tant, it takes a step-by-step approach, walking the reader through a thorough evaluation of the ECG. This, as many of us have been taught, is the “right” way to look at an ECG. This edition includes a new opening chapter that covers basic concepts. This quickly orients the reader to the physiology, anatomy, and geometry of the electrical system of the heart. After reviewing each component of the ECG, the next section describes the unique ECG patterns of speci? c cardiac conditions, including pulmonary embolism and long QT syndrome. This is f- lowed by a chapter with each of the arrhythmias. Finally, Dr. Khan includes an invaluable section—an ECG Board Review and Self- Assessment Quiz. With this, the reader can really see if the basic c- cepts and ECG fundamentals have been learned.

Springer New York Freud on Interpretation
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 85,59 €This book presents new insights into Freud’s famous “discovery” of the unconscious and the subsequent development of psychoanalytic theories. The authors explore the original context in which these ideas arose and the central debate about mind as matter or something that transcends matter. In the course of this examination, it is demonstrated that Freud was influenced not only by the 19th century scientific milieu, but also by ancient cultures. While it is known that Freud was an avid collector of ancient artifacts and generally interested in these older cultures, this book systematically investigates their profound effect on his thinking and theorizing. Two major influences, Egyptian mythology and Jewish mysticism are analyzed in terms of similarities to Freud’s emerging ideas about the mind and its diseases. To further this line of investigation, Bakan supplies an illuminating discussion of what it means to interpret. Taken from the viewpoint that interpretation involves an u

Springer US Interpretation of NMR Spectra
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 53,49 €In writing this book I had two main objectives: (1) to teach the organic chemist how to interpret proton magnetic resonance spectra, and (2) to provide the reference data which are constantly needed in the use of proton spectra. I have felt that it was im portant to point out not only the information which can be gained from spectra, but also the limitations and the potential pitfalls. All of the important facts are organized into tabular summaries. Every effort has been made to present the material clearly, con cisely, completely, and accurately. At the same time, subjects not directly related to the interpretation of spectra have been omitted. Thus, while the conclusions drawn from theory are presented, the theory itself has been avoided. There are a number of advantages in learning the empirical facts before learning the theory. First of all, in interpreting spectra one usually has to rely on his knowledge of the accumulated empirical correlations much more than on his knowledge of the theory. In fact, one could know all of the theory and still not b~ able to interpret spectra unless he also knew the empirical facts. Secondly, the theory is much more easilyunderstoodafter the facts have been mastered.

Springer London Line Drawing Interpretation
Anbieter: Link.springer.com Preis: 106,99 €The computer interpretation of line drawings is a classic problem in artificial intelligence and has inspired the development of some fundamental AI tools, including constraint propagation, probabilistic relaxation, tractable constraints, and (most recently) local simplification of optimisation problems. Based on the author’s considerable research experience, this book looks at line drawing interpretation and constraint satisfaction, covering several landmark results in the field. It contains state-of-the-art reviews of work in both drawing interpretation and discrete optimisation, and is not just restricted to drawings of polyhedral objects, but also covers complex curved objects. Its novel approach to drawing interpretation combines new constraints with recent advances in soft constraint programming. The book will become a standard reference in the field with its coverage of many theoretical results with formal proofs, particularly concerning necessary-and-sufficient conditions for realizability, simplification operations for combinatorial problems and tractability of drawing interpretation. Martin Cooper makes this fascinating topic accessible not only to computer scientists, but also to mathematicians, psychologists and cognitive scientists – indeed to anyone intrigued by optical illusions and impossible or ambiguous figures.
