Neoliberal Ebola Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 53,49 €This volume compiles five papers modeling the effects of neoliberal economics on the emergence of Ebola and its aftermath. Neoliberalism is currently the world's primary economic philosophy. It centers international relations around globalizing laissez-faire economics for multinational companies promoting free trade deregulating economic markets and shifting state expenditures in favor of private property. The multidisciplinary teams represented here place both Ebola Makona the Zaire Ebola virus variant that has infected 28 000 in West Africa and Ebola Reston which is currently emerging in industrial hog farms in the Philippines and China within a multi-plank modeling framework. Using a stochastic extinction model that one group spatializes environmental stochasticity across the ecologies in which Ebola evolves is treated as an ecosystemic prophylaxis. An agroecological logic gate is developed for epidemic control. A Black-Scholes model explicitly links economic margins across agricultural systems to success in biocontrol. This new control theory is further developed around the data-rate and rate-distortion theorems a turbulence model and cognitive symmetry breaking. Lastly a model of pandemic penetrance is used to explore the domino effects of serious outbreaks amplifying through the cascades of disasters that can follow deadly pandemics. All the models presented are contextualized by socioeonomic geographies specific to outbreak locales.Together the models suggest shifts in regional agroeconomics under the neoliberal doctrine driving deforestation and monoculture production destroying the ecosystemic friction with which local forests typically disrupt Ebola transmission. The resulting collapse in such an ecological function accelerates pathogen spillover and propagation across the remaining host populations. The failure on the part of current control efforts to assimilate such a structural context may render even an efficacious vaccine dysfunctional. The authors propose an alternate science of disease and an adjunct program of interventions useful to researchers and public health officials alike.

Its cross-cultural analysis examines the reality of neoliberal psychology in the globalized world asserting that neoliberalism influences individuals¿ sense of self identity and¿regardless of country of origin¿concept of nationality. Macro cultural psychological theory opens out neoliberal psychology in its most visible aspects such as work life sexuality consumer behavior and the shared vision of the good life. At the same time the author identifies profound social inequities and other negative aspects of neoliberal society and discusses how they may be corrected. Included in the coverage: Snapshots of neoliberal society and psychology. A psychological theory for comprehending neoliberal psychology. Neoliberalism as a cultural political economic ideological system. The neoliberal class structure of phenomena. Psychological and cultural emancipation and macro cultural psychological theory. Feeling Academic In The Neoliberal University Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 90,94 €This book offers a contemporary account of what it means to inhabit academia as a privilege risk entitlement or a failure. Drawing on international perspectives from a range of academic disciplines it asks whether feminist spaces can offer freedom or flight from the corporatized and commercialized neoliberal university. How are feminist voices felt heard received silenced and masked? What is it to be a feminist academic in the neoliberal university? How are expectations entitlements and burdens felt in inhabiting feminist positions and what of 'bad feeling' or 'unhappiness' amongst feminists? The volume consider these issues from across the career course including from 'early career' and senior established scholars as these diverse categories are themselves entangled in academic structures sentiments and subjectivities; they are solidified in for example entry and promotion schemes as well as funding calls and they ask us to identify in particular stages of 'being' or 'becoming' academic while arguably denying the possibility of ever arriving. It will be essential reading for students and researchers in the areas of Education Sociology and Gender Studies.

Neoliberal Bio-Economies? - Kean Birch Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 74,89 €In this book Kean Birch analyses the co-construction of markets and natures in the emerging bio-economy as a policy response to global environmental change. The bio-economy is an economic system characterized by the use of plants and other biological materials rather than fossil fuels to produce energy chemicals and societal goods. Over the last decade or so numerous countries around the world have developed bio-economy strategies as a potential transition pathway to a low-carbon future. Whether this is achievable or not remains an open question one which this book seeks to answer. In addressing this question Kean Birch draws on over ten years of research on the bio-economy around the world but especially in North America. He examines what kinds of markets and natures are being imagined and constructed in the pursuit of the bio-economy and problematizes the idea that this is being driven by neoliberalism and the neoliberalization of nature(s).

The Rise and Fall of the Neoliberal Order - Gary Gerstle, Gebunden
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 31,30 €Shortlisted for the 2022 FT Business Book of the Year Award In The Rise and Fall of the Neoliberal Order, Gary Gerstle provides a sweeping re-interpretation of the entire era-from the revival of market liberalism in the 1970s to the ruin generated by the 2008 global financial crisis-that places America at the center. For many, neoliberalism is a term of opprobrium, and their critique of it is simple: it prioritizes free market principles over people and, under the guise of expanding individual choice throughout the world, has dramatically shifted power toward capital. While sympathetic to the regime's critics, Gerstle contends that the largely negative conventional wisdom misses the full contours of what neoliberalism was and why its worldview exerted such persuasive hold on both right and left for so long.

Neoliberal Urban Governance - Carolina Sternberg Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 139,09 €This book examines the dynamics of neoliberal urban governance through a comparative analysis of Buenos Aires and Chicago with a special focus on gentrification processes in both cities from 2011 to 2021. This work argues that neoliberal principles rationales and institutions along with the elaborate rhetoric that has contributed to their success are forever present in the US and Latin American region particularly in global cities like Buenos Aires and Chicago. The year of 2011 marks the (almost) simultaneous election of new executive authorities in each city and finalizes in 2021-a sufficient time span to observe key patterns narratives and developments of each neoliberal urban governance. First this book chronicles the evolving urban neoliberal policies implemented since 2011 in both cities with special attention to the systematic reduction of affordable housing and privatization of public land that have paved the way for gentrification to advance at a fast pace.Second it also exposes readers to the prominent rhetoric crafted by local boards developers architects and real estate agents in both cities. Third this study chronicles how these contemporary neoliberal urban governances currently operate a critical aspect that remains vastly unexplored. Lastly until now these governances have been scantly explored from a comparative perspective in Latin American and North American urban settings and so this book offers a rich new approach.

Time And Space In The Neoliberal University Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 74,89 €This book offers new interdisciplinary analyses of borders and blockages in higher education and how they can be inhabited and reworked. Amidst stratified inequalities of race gender class and sexuality across time and space contributors explore what alternative academic futures can be claimed. While higher education institutions are increasingly concerned with 'internationalization' 'diversity' and 'widening access and participation' the sector remains complicit in reproducing entrenched inequalities of access and outcomes among both students and staff: boundaries of who does and does not belong are continually drawn enacted contested and redrawn. In the contemporary neoliberal entrepreneurial and 'post'-colonial educational context contributors critically examine educational futures as these become more uncertain. This wide-ranging collection serves as a call to action for those concerned with the future of higher education and how alternative futures can be reimagined.

Adult Education In Neoliberal Times - Marion Bowl Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 106,99 €This book explores the realities of adult education practice in the current political and economic climate. With a particular focus on examining the effect of the multitude of changes in policy and philosophy over the past 30 years the book explores how the values and career expectations of adult educators have been affected and considers the implications for adult education as a field of professional practice. As well as exploring the broader international picture the book draws on the findings of recent research into adult and community education practitioners' perspectives in two case study countries - England and Aotearoa/New Zealand - to illustrate how local contexts and cultures as well as global trends impact on the structure and organisation of adult education. By presenting the perspectives of adult educators whose voices have been relatively absent from the recent literature this book gives a unique insight into how their work has been adversely affected by funding and policy pressures in an increasingly insecure educational environment and analyses their responses to the contradictions between their professional values and the expectations placed upon them by policy and funding changes. It will be of great interest to students and researchers working in Education and Sociology and will also make compelling reading for policy-makers.

Beyond Neoliberalism, Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 26,74 €This book explores how changes that occurred around 1989 shaped the study of the social sciences, and scrutinizes the impact of the paradigm of neoliberalism in different disciplinary fields. The contributors examine the ways in which capitalism has transmuted into a seemingly unquestionable, triumphant framework that globally articulates economics with epistemology and social ontology. The volume also investigates how new narratives of capitalism are being developed by social scientists in order to better understand capitalism's ramifications in various domains of knowledge. At its heart, Beyond Neoliberalism seeks to unpack and disaggregate neoliberalism, and to take readers beyond the analytical limitations that a traditional framework of neoliberalism entails. This book is a result of discussions at and support from the Irmgard Coninx Fundation.

Spuren Globaler Eliten Und Neoliberaler Unternehmensführung - Julian Klinkhammer Kartoniert (TB)

Prosecuting Domestic Abuse In Neoliberal Times - Antonia Porter Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 128,39 €This book argues that past inattentive treatment by state criminal justice agencies in relation to domestic abuse is now being self-consciously reversed by neoliberal governing agendas intent on denouncing crime and holding offenders to account. Criminal prosecutions are key to the UK government's strategy to end Violence Against Women and Girls. Crown Prosecution Service policy affirms that domestic abuse offences are 'particularly serious' and prosecutors are reminded that it will be rare that the 'public interest' will not require of such offences through the criminal courts. Seeking to unpick some of the discourses and perspectives that may have contributed to the current prosecutorial commitment the book considers its emergence within the context of the women's movement feminist scholarship and an era of neoliberalism. Three empirical chapters explore the prosecution commitment on the one hand and the impact on women's lives on the other. The book's final substantive chapter offers a distinctive normative conceptual framework through which practitioners may think about women who have experienced domestic abuse that will have both intellectual appeal and practical application.
