Coronaviruses and Arteriviruses, Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 213,99 €Coronaviruses and arteriviruses have emerged as major virus families relevant in ani mal and human health. The order Nidovirales, which includes the Coronaviridae and Ar teriviridae, was recognized by the International Committee for the Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) in 1996 based on the striking features common to the two virus families. In accord ance with this decision, the organizers of the coronavirus meeting, held every three years since 1980, invited colleagues working with both virus families to attend the VIIth Interna tional Symposium on Coronaviruses and Arteriviruses, held in Segovia, Spain, in 1997. This symposium provided a stimulating forum for assessing the progress made since the last of the scientific meeting, which was held in Quebec, Canada. This volume is a collection papers presented at this symposium attended by 170 scientists from academia and industry. Virus Entry has been reviewed in the first section of this volume by studying the interaction between mutants of virus receptors and coronavirus spike protein. The neutrali of virus by soluble receptors has been used to study this interaction. Interestingly, zation the evolution of virus-receptor interaction leads to interspecies transfer of coronaviruses. Construction of chimeric aminopeptidase, the receptor of group I coronaviruses, has been useful in the identification of the virus-binding sites for coronaviruses of the porcine, ca nine, feline, and human species. The progress in this area has revealed that the feline ami nopeptidase is a receptor for all group I coronaviruses.

Cell Entry by Non-Enveloped Viruses, Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 160,49 €This book examines the means by which non-enveloped viruses penetrate cellular membranes during cell entry. It will help elucidate the mechanisms of non-enveloped virus membrane penetration in general. The means by which non-enveloped viruses penetrate cellular membranes during cell entry remain poorly defined. Recent findings indicate several members of this group share a common mechanism of membrane penetration in which the virus particle undergoes programmed conformational changes, leading to capsid disassembly and release of small membrane-interacting peptides. A complete understanding of host cell entry by this minimal system will help elucidate the mechanisms of non-enveloped virus membrane penetration in general

Hemorrhagic Fever Viruses Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 123,04 €This volume presents protocols that analyze and explore hemorrhagic fever viruses (HFV). This book is divided into 5 parts: Part I begins with an overview on predicting viral pandemics and then covers methods for surveillance diagnosis and classification of HFV. This includes an antibody capture method using Lassa virus antigens. Part II discusses structural studies and reverse genetics of HFV. The chapters in this part describe envelope glycoprotein membrane fusion studies arenavirus nucleocapsid protein and the use of virus-like-particles to study viral egress. Part III explores in vivo models of HFV infections and contains chapters on murine guinea pig and primate models for HFV and methods to obtain a subset of primary human liver cells that can be cultured long-term. Part IV looks into immune assays and vaccine production for HFV. The chapters in this section cover the attenuated vaccine for Argentine HFV detecting virus-antibody immune complexes in secondary dengue infections and DNA vaccination. Part V discusses host responses to viral hemorrhagic fever and contains chapters on identifying host restrictions to Junín or Dengue infection and a cell-culture method to assess coagulation after HFV infection. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series format chapters include introductions to their respective topics lists of the necessary materials and reagents step-by-step readily reproducible laboratory protocols and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Thorough and cutting-edge Hemorrhagic Fever Viruses: Methods and Protocols is a valuable resource for scientists and researchers who want to bridge the gap between virus recognition in surveillance and understanding host responses to infection.

Cell Biology of Herpes Viruses, Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 160,49 €Herpes viruses are widely distributed in nature, causing disease in organisms as diverse as bivalves and primates, including humans. Each virus appears to have established a long-standing relationship with its host, and the viruses have the ability to manipulate and control the metabolism of host cells, as well as innate and adaptive antiviral immune responses. Herpes viruses maintain themselves within hosts in a latent state resulting in virus persistence for years - usually for the life span of the hosts. Herpes viruses comprise a large number of pathogens with diverse cellular targets and biological consequences of infection. What they have in common is their structure and the fact that they establish a dormant (latent) infection in their hosts that usually persists for life. The reviews here will highlight the general principles of herpes virus infection, with equal attention to overall principle and important difference. Also, the cell type- and life-style dependent differences inthe establishment and maintenance of virus persistence will be covered.

Viruses in all Dimensions - Rafael Ball, Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.de Preis: 35,30 €Microorganisms, viruses, and computer programs encode all the information necessary to reproduce and spread themselves. Yet these mechanisms are amazingly similar in the animate world, in the world of viruses, and even in the world of technical systems. The book shows how great the parallels are between these various animate and inanimate replicating systems and what they are based on. The excursion also leads into the fascinating world of genetics, to the question of what defines life and into the programming of software that multiplies itself independently. Finally, the question is derived whether and to what extent such self-replicating technical systems can become as dangerous as infectious viruses in triggering pandemics, such as the Corona pandemic in 2020.
