Very rare and very cool Hofner 161 also known als Colorama. This guitar looks like it has seen every bar within 1000 miles, but remains all original besides the bridge (probably not original). This is still the early version with a semi solid body, set neck and trapeze tailpiece. Neck is straight. Frets new. Plays like butter. The original pickup reads about 4,8k Ohm (not rewound). Great playing and looking Hofner 456 from around 1953. The Hofner has an original shellac finish, what is very rare and usually not found in this price range. Work done: new frets, added a carbon reeinforcement into the neck, new tuners, new rosewood peghead, added a dowel stick into the body between neck and end block for stability, as the top has a slight deformation. The guitar is far from collectible but a very nice playing, sounding and looking instrument. The neck is with 46mm wider than most neck of that time and not too fat. The only downside is that someone glued down the bridge in the wrong position in the past. It is now in the correct position.
