Hepatitis Viruses Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild AT Preis: 164,99 €Hepatitis viruses research started more than fifty years ago. The names of hepatitis A and hepatitis B were introduced in 1947 when it became clear that there were two types of hepatitis that were transmitted either enterically or parenterally. It became apparent in the 1970's that there were additional hepatitis viruses distinct from hepatitis A and hepatitis B and thus the term non-A non-B hepatitis was introduced. The non-A non-B hepatitis was further divided into post-transfusion non-A non-B hepatitis and enterically-transmitted non-A non-B hepatitis in the 1980's. By the end of the 1980's both post-transfusion non-A non-B virus and enterically-transmitted non-A non-B virus had been identified and renamed hepatitis C virus and hepatitis E virus respectively. Hepatitis delta antigen was first recognized as an antigen associated with hepatitis B virus infection in the 1970's. In the early 1980's a virus was isolated and named hepatitis delta virus. These five different hepatitis viruses have distinct replication pathways and are major health concerns. They have become an important topic for teaching to graduate-level and medical students. Hepatitis Viruses provides a comprehensive up-to-date review of these viruses to readers. Each chapter is written by one of the top researchers in the field and topics include: the epidemiology and the natural history of infection of these viruses the molecular biology and the replication cycle of individual hepatitis viruses host-virus interactions and the pathogenesis of hepatitis viruses the immunology of hepatitis viruses the relationship between hepatitis viruses and hepatocellular carcinoma the viral vaccines and antiviral drugs. This book can serve as a supplemental reading material to graduate students and medical students and to any researcher who would like to learn more about hepatitis viruses.

Dna Tumor Viruses Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.at Preis: 219,99 €DNA tumor viruses have long been useful experimental models of carcinogenesis and have elucidated several important mechanisms of cell transformation. Re search in recent years has shown that human tumors have a multifactorial nature and that some DNA tumor viruses may playa key role in their etiology. The aim of this book is to assess our knowledge of DNA tumor viruses by reviewing animal models mechanisms of transformation association with human tumors and possi bilities of prevention and control by vaccination. Animal models of tumor virology have contributed significantly to our under standing of the epidemiology and pathogenesis of virus-induced tumors. Bovine papillomaviruses induce papillomas in the intestine of cattle. The papillomas undergo a transition to carcinomas in cows feeding on bracken fern which pro duces a toxin with radiomimetic and immunosuppressive functions. This example of cooperation between a virus and chemical carcinogens parallels the cooperative role of human papillomaviruses (HPVs) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) with environmental carcinogens in the pathogenesis of cervical cancer. Likewise hepatocarcinomas appearing in woodchucks chronically infected by woodchuck hepatitis virus (WIN) provide strong support for the relationship between hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and human hepatocellular carcinoma. Also the fact that WIN DNA integrates closely to cellular oncogenes suggests a possible molecular mechanism for the tumorigenesis induced by HBV.

Hemorrhagic Fever Viruses Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild AT Preis: 126,49 €This volume presents protocols that analyze and explore hemorrhagic fever viruses (HFV). This book is divided into 5 parts: Part I begins with an overview on predicting viral pandemics and then covers methods for surveillance diagnosis and classification of HFV. This includes an antibody capture method using Lassa virus antigens. Part II discusses structural studies and reverse genetics of HFV. The chapters in this part describe envelope glycoprotein membrane fusion studies arenavirus nucleocapsid protein and the use of virus-like-particles to study viral egress. Part III explores in vivo models of HFV infections and contains chapters on murine guinea pig and primate models for HFV and methods to obtain a subset of primary human liver cells that can be cultured long-term. Part IV looks into immune assays and vaccine production for HFV. The chapters in this section cover the attenuated vaccine for Argentine HFV detecting virus-antibody immune complexes in secondary dengue infections and DNA vaccination. Part V discusses host responses to viral hemorrhagic fever and contains chapters on identifying host restrictions to Junín or Dengue infection and a cell-culture method to assess coagulation after HFV infection. The Insect Viruses Kartoniert (TB)
Anbieter: Weltbild.at Preis: 54,99 €There are over a million different species of insects and individually they 8 outnumber humans by more than 10 to 1. Moreover some insects live in close association with both plants and higher animals and naturally exchange viruses with them. It has even been speculated that viruses in general may have radiated through the plant and animal kingdoms from common insect origins. Be that as it may since insects play pivotal roles in the biosphere both to the benefit and detriment of mankind they and the viruses that infect them are important subjects for study. Insects are infected by a diverse medley of viruses and this volume focuses on those insect virus families that are found primarily or exclusively in insects. All major families of insect-selective viruses are covered except for the baculo viruses which were described in a separate volume of The Viruses series. Included in this volume are the established families of insect viruses the newly recognized ascovirus family and the nudiviruses which probably represent a separate family but currently remain unclassified. The coverage of arboviruses is limited to a single chapter that focuses on their potential utility as vectors and in insect control. Omitted for practical reasons are several individual insect viruses that have been described sporadically in the literature and probably represent novel virus families.
