Vendor: 8wines.com Price: 36.47 £ (+2.32 £)Cellar for up to 10 years. Decant to a drinking glass for 10 or 20 minutes. Tinazzi is a family business, spanning over 50 years and three generations. The winery was founded in 1968, through the determination of Eugenio Tinazzi. Ownership has since passed down to his son Gian Andrea, who is joined by his two children, Giorgio and Francesca. From relatively humble beginnings, a single estate on the shores of Lake Garda, Tinazzi has become a company in a state of constant growth. They have acquired several estates and cellars all across Italy, including a stake in Puglia, home of the large, robust Primitivo. This 2019 Primitivo is a deep ruby red, bursting with flavours of bold black fruits. It has an intense nose, with notes of plum, dark cherries, and spicy cinnamon. The red soils of the Taranto region combined with its scorching sun have produced an undeniably potent grape. This is a warm and filling vintage, with excellent structure and a long, enveloping finish. It can be relished immediately, or cellared for further aging. Enjoy it with a hearty meal to match this red's full body, such as a tomato-rich pasta dish, beef, or lamb.

Attanasio Primitivo di Manduria 2017
Vendor: 8wines.com Price: 31.18 £ (+2.32 £)Cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant before serving. This classic Primitivo from the sunbaked southern Italian region of Puglia is crafted from 40-50 year old vines grown on the typical local “terra rossa” or “red earth” soils. Here the climate is hot and arid which helps to intensify the flavours in the grapes and ensures optimal ripeness. The must is vinified in stainless steel tanks with a lengthy maceration on the skins to capture the authentic character of the grape. The young wine then spends 11 months maturing in steel vats followed by 15 months in oak barrels. The result is a powerful, full-bodied red wine which offers all the rich dark fruit character you would expect from the deep Italian south. The wine opens with a magnificent dark red hue and intense aromas of black cherry, bitter chocolate, vanilla and cigar box. The first sip reveals a firm structure which will respond well to extended cellaring, well-developed tannins, and strong dark berry flavours. Attanasio was founded in 2000 and today the estate owns 8 hectares of vines with the cellar room located below the 19th century palace. The project is under the watchful eye of Giuseppe Attanasio who has been involved in winemaking for over 60 years. The high attention to detail and tiny yields means that the estate only produces 15,000 bottles in total each year which are quickly snapped up by Italian wine connoisseurs.

Gianfranco Fino Es Primitivo di Manduria 2023
Vendor: 8wines.com Price: 66.01 £ (+2.32 £)Drink now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant before serving. One of Salento’s most magnificent Primitivo di Manduria wines, Es is created in strictly limited quantities. In the vineyard the use of chemical herbicides and pesticides is avoided along with dry farming to concentrate the flavours and aromas in the grapes. The grapes are allowed to dry out slightly on the vine before harvest to add extra complexity and richness and they are then harvested by hand. Once in the winery the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged in new and used French oak barrels for 9 months before bottling. After another 9 months of ageing in the bottle the wine is deemed ready for release. Opulent aromas define the nose with intense blackberry, cassis and dark plum while the first sip reveals a generous full body, smooth tannins and very long finish with hints of cigar box spice. This full-throttled red is the iconic wine of Gianfranco Fino who began his search for the perfect vineyard site in Puglia in 2004. Keen to preserve the winemaking traditions and heritage of the region, he purchased a prime 2 hectare plot planted with 50 year old Primitivo vines and began to make wines that capture the true sunbaked essence of the Sava and Manduria countryside.
